| Description |  The Dorsal Turret Access compartment provides direct access to one of the Wayfarer's Promise' defensive weapon emplacements. Although the turret is normally operated remotely from the Tactical / Sensors Station, this compartment contains the local controls and maintenance connections required to keep the system operational. A secured access hatch leads into the turret mechanism itself, allowing authorised crew to inspect targeting components, power feeds, rotation assemblies and weapon-control hardware. Much of the machinery is enclosed behind removable panels to protect personnel from moving components and high-energy systems. Local diagnostic controls allow the turret to be tested independently from the bridge. During maintenance, the weapon can be isolated from the ship's main fire-control network, preventing accidental activation while technicians are working on the mechanism. Emergency controls provide limited local operation should the bridge connection or primary fire-control systems be damaged. Such operation is considerably less efficient than normal remote control, but it gives the crew another defensive option if the ship is badly damaged. The compartment also contains safety equipment, maintenance tools and replacement components specific to the turret assembly. Warning markings around power conduits and moving machinery make it clear that this is a working technical space rather than an ordinary crew area. Access is normally restricted when the Wayfarer's Promise is carrying passengers, both for security reasons and because an active weapon emplacement is not somewhere an inexperienced visitor should be wandering. |
