| Description | ![]() The Main Lift provides the principal means of vertical movement through the occupied sections of the Wayfarer's Promise, connecting the command deck with Decks 2 through 5. Crew, passengers and smaller loads can move between the ship's command, accommodation, passenger and cargo levels without relying on the narrower stairways and maintenance routes. The lift car is deliberately practical, with hard-wearing wall panels, recessed lighting and a durable floor designed to withstand years of boots, equipment cases and the occasional piece of cargo. A simple control panel provides access to each connected deck, while an internal communications point allows occupants to contact the bridge if necessary. Safety systems automatically secure the lift during sudden manoeuvres or emergencies. If the ship loses primary power, the car is designed to stop at the nearest accessible deck where possible, while an independent emergency supply maintains lighting, communications and door controls. Access permissions can also be changed from the bridge. During a security incident, individual decks can be restricted or the lift disabled entirely, preventing passengers or intruders from reaching sensitive areas of the vessel. Although the Main Lift reaches the cargo operations level on Deck 5, it does not continue into the heavier engineering, utility and vehicle decks below. Those areas rely on their own access routes better suited to machinery, maintenance crews and equipment movement. Like most things aboard the Wayfarer's Promise, the lift bears the marks of constant use. Scratches, replaced panels and the occasional reluctant door are simply part of life aboard a working ship. |
