Description
Wayfarer's Promise - Stairs to Deck 2

The stairs between Decks 1 and 2 provide a simple and dependable alternative to the Main Lift aboard the Wayfarer's Promise. Connecting the command deck directly with the officers and core crew accommodation below, they are frequently used by crew moving between their quarters and duty stations.

The stairwell is narrow and functional, reflecting the practical design of a working freighter. Metal steps, sturdy handrails and recessed lighting make efficient use of the available space, while high-grip surfaces help keep footing secure when the ship is manoeuvring.

Unlike the Main Lift, the stairs require no power to remain usable. This makes them an important secondary route during emergencies, particularly if electrical failures or damage leave the lift unavailable.

Emergency lighting is connected to an independent power supply, while clearly marked access panels provide maintenance crews with entry to conduits and systems running alongside the stairwell.

The route can be sealed at either end during a decompression, fire or security incident, allowing Deck 1 to be isolated from the accommodation areas below if necessary.

In everyday use, however, the stairway is simply part of life aboard the Wayfarer's Promise — and for bridge crew whose cabins are only one deck below, often considerably quicker than waiting for the lift.
