Description
Wayfarer's Promise - Navigation / Astrocomputer

The Navigation / Astrocomputer station provides the Wayfarer's Promise with the specialised systems required to plot courses through both realspace and hyperspace. Although basic navigation information is available throughout the bridge, this station handles the complex calculations required for long-distance travel and safe hyperspace jumps.

At the centre of the station is a dedicated navigation display used to examine star systems, hyperspace lanes, planetary approaches and potential hazards. The ship's astrocomputer continuously compares sensor information against stored navigational data, allowing the navigator to refine routes as conditions change.

For an independent vessel such as the Wayfarer's Promise, the fastest route is not always the safest or most desirable. The navigation database therefore contains established hyperspace lanes alongside secondary routes, remote systems, independent ports and lesser-known stopping points accumulated during the ship's travels.

Before any hyperspace jump, the astrocomputer calculates the vessel's trajectory while accounting for stellar bodies, gravity wells, known hazards and the ship's current position. The navigator reviews those calculations before transferring the final course to the flight controls.

The system also maintains local approach charts and planetary navigation data, making the station equally important when manoeuvring through unfamiliar systems or preparing the vessel for arrival at a new destination.
